The Asona Abusua is recognized as the largest of the Akan clans, with origins traditionally traced to Adanse Akurofuom. Oral history recounts that the ancestors of the Asona were led from a cave by a red snake and protected by an elephant during their migration, symbols that remain culturally significant to the clan. The clan is also notable for its tradition of strong female leadership, with distinguished figures such as Nana Abena Boaa, Nana Afia Dokuaa, and the renowned Nana Yaa Asantewaa, whose bravery and governance left a lasting mark on Akan and Asante history.
The ASONA clan occupies 15 stools.
